5 Essential Tips for Travelling with Your Baby

Whether you’re planning a weekend trip away or a long-haul jaunt to the other side of the world, many parents find the idea of travelling with a child extremely daunting. Long journeys, early mornings and being outside of your comfort zone can result in stress for mum, dad and baby. Travelling with your tot needn’t be a bad experience though. Here are five tips that will make travelling with baby so much easier.

Make Bedtime a Breeze

One of the most worrisome parts about traveling with a baby is making sure your little one gets enough sleep. Going to new place can upset their routine and leave them grouchy. The best solution is to make your baby feel totally relaxed in their new environment. Before bed time, try some soothing products such as the Petit&Jolie massage oil or bath oil to help them drift off with ease.

Pack Plenty of Clothes

Babies can get hot and sweaty during travelling or when in a hot country, so expect to change their clothing more than usual. Washing clothes isn’t easy away from home, so make sure you pack more than enough for your whole holiday. If you’re travelling somewhere warm, choose light cotton clothing as well as sunhats to keep them cool and comfortable.

Don’t Forget the Essentials

Travelling with a baby means you need so much more stuff! Before you leave, write a checklist to make sure you don’t forget anything important. Depending on your baby’s age and where you’re going, this could include essentials such as formula, bottles, nappies, wipes, diaper cream, food, clothes and more. And don’t forget some baby-friendly sun cream and after sun to protect your baby’s skin outside. We recommend the gentle Organic Babies range.

Come Armed with Toys

Babies can get bored and restless during travelling, especially when they’re confined to a car or airplane seat. Be prepared with several small toys or books that will keep your baby entertained. It is a good idea to take something new that will excite them and hold their attention for a few hours. Snacks are also a good distraction tactic, depending on their age.

Keep Them Hydrated

The low humidity in air cabins as well as hot weather in your destination can cause dehydration and make your baby feel unwell, so it is important that they drink more fluids than usual. Pack some water in a bottle or, if they’re old enough, encourage them to take frequent drinks from a sippy cup. You should also keep their skin hydrated with a nourishing cream such as the Petit&Jolie baby body lotion.
