Scarlet Ribbon & The 7 Woolly Wonders...

Founded in 2014, Scarlet Ribbon Merino creates 100% merino knitwear that blends beauty with practicality. After the birth of her third child, founder Stephanie Eynon began her journey to create woollen garments for children that are both luxurious and comfortable. In her quest to quash the belief that wool is itchy and awkward, Stephanie chose Merino, a fibre that naturally regulates body temperature. This easy to care for material is suitable for allergy prone skin and will retain its shape after washing. Offering a core collection of timeless designs, these luxurious pieces are refined in their simplicity and come in a soft palette of pastel shades. In addition, Scarlet Ribbon Merino have created handcrafted pure leather baby shoes available in two classic styles.

Merino - The 7 Woolly Wonders

1. Luxuriously Soft & Comfortable

The fibres of merino wool are extremely fine. In fact, merino fibres are around 10 times thinner than human hair! This means they bend much more easily than traditional wool fibres, making merino exceptionally soft and comfortable, with an amazing weight to warmth ratio. A huge contrast to bulky and itchy traditional wool, our Extrafine Merino knitwear can be worn against the skin, without any irritation. It is especially good for babies who suffer from eczema or allergies due to Merino’s anti-static-properties, which means it picks up less dust and other allergens from the air.

2. Total Easycare – Machine Washable At 40 Degrees

The natural protective layers on Merino fibres mean it is naturally resistant to stains and odour, so can be washed less frequently than other materials. Scarlet Ribbon Merino knitwear can be machine washed at up to 40 degrees and is shrink resistant. Our knitwear can even be tumble dried on a low heat. A huge benefit for busy mums! 3. Natural breathability and temperature control

Merino wool breathes naturally to keep your baby comfortable, whatever the weather. When worn, it creates a microclimate against the skin that changes according to the outside temperature, keeping baby warm in winter and cool in summer. This makes Merino the perfect choice for dressing babies and small children as, unlike adults, they have difficulty regulating their body temperature. Woolmark has done extensive research to support the fact that Merino wool helps improve sleep patterns among infants, given its ability to regulate temperature and maximise comfort when sleeping. As babies spend much of their day sleeping, when out and about in the car or pram, Merino is the perfect choice for dressing them. 4. Durable, Long Lasting and Newer For Longer

While incredibly soft, Merino wool is very hard-wearing. This can be attributed to its characteristically fine, yet long and strong fibres (Merino fibres can be bent 30,000 times without breaking). It will remain soft wash after wash, wear after wear and is much less likely to pill/bobble than ordinary wool. And, the natural elasticity of Merino means your Scarlet Ribbon Merino knitwear will stretch with each wear, but then return to its natural shape. Merino stays looking newer and smarter for longer, withstanding everyday wear from your first to last born.

5. Sustainable & Environmentally Friendly

Merino wool is 100% natural fibre, grown by sheep whose diet is a simple blend of water, air, sunshine and grass. The fleece of the merino sheep is shorn once or twice a year and simply grows back, making it a renewable and sustainable, natural resource. It is also completely biodegradable.

6. The Safe Choice For Your Baby

Merino wool has unique fire and UV resistant properties, making it the safe choice for dressing your treasured little ones. Merino is naturally flame resistant and self-extinguishing due to it's relatively high moisture content and absorbs UV radiation.

7. Naturally Antibacterial & Odour Repelling

Merino has unique antibacterial properties, which means that it is able to absorb odours without smelling.
